The Port of Cork Company is among a number of bidders interested in acquiring the former IFI site at Marino Point. The 114 acre site, which is currently on the market, was the location of the former Irish Fertiliser Industry (IFI) facility.
If successful, the Port have expressed an interest in developing the site for the transfer or refining of biofuel to facilitate the government energy strategy which includes an increase in the use of biofuels nationwide.
Concerns about Marino Point being used for port related activities have been expressed by Passage West Town Council. A decision on the bid is expected in October.
