Wrixon Report on the Docklands

A report produced by the Docklands Development Forum, chaired by Gerry Wrixon, emphasises the need for investment to kick start this strategic regional development initiative. Funding for the Eastern Gateway Bridge is required as part of the €615million package of overall investment to be spent between now and 2020.

The Docklands Development Forum, consisting of high level representatives of the City Hall, County Council, Port of Cork and landowners, are lobbying Government to make a commitment to funding the Bridge through the Gateway Innovation Fund, which has already been deferred until 2010 as a result of the economic downturn.

The Wrixon Report also recommends the controversial establishment of a special authority to oversee the Docklands Project, despite the capacity and expertise already available in the City Hall.
