Fishermen blockaded the Port of Cork yesterday, 10th June in protest at rising fuel costs, EU fish quotas and heavy enforcement of fishing regulations. Trawlers gathered in Cork City on the 9th, but the protest escalated yesterday when the fishermen blocked the entrance to the Cork Harbour at Roches Point.
The Port of Cork said there was no major interruption to traffic as no large shipping movements were scheduled, although two container ships were delayed in departing and an oil tanker bound for Whitegate was prevented from entering the harbour. |
