Cork Week 2010

This year the biennial feast of yacht racing that is Cork Week kicked off on 12th July in almost Mediterranean conditions with moderate winds and sunshine. However, the rest of the week saw mixed conditions with Thursday proving especially challenging with big winds and swells. Many boats struggled in the wind and some suffered some damage. Buckled spinnaker poles and trapped spinnaker halyards provided plenty thrills and excitement especially in the J/109 fleet.

Cork Week, hosted by the Royal Cork Yacht Club, held the closing ceremony on Friday 16th. Two boats shared the ‘ Boat of the Week’ mantle- Dave Dwyer’s Mills 39, Mariners Cove, and Paul Kirwan’s Sigma 38, Erisslannan.

Thoughts are already turning to Cork Week 2012 which will take place between the 7 th and 13 th July 2012.
