Cork City Council intends to commission consultants to prepare a River Use and Management Plan for the docklands area, comprising 4 kilometers of river frontage, according to an advertisement taken out in Fridays Irish Examiner (22 nd August). A draft scoping report has already been prepared and sets out the main issues to be addressed. Some of the ideas already mooted are floating cafes and restaurants.
Cork City Council are inviting citizens to have their say in shaping the content of the final report by making submissions, which should be made in writing before 5pm, September 19 th, detailing practical and logistical suggestions.
Questions arising from transport links, toilet facilities, access to the river by existing clubs, the potential provision of pontoons and moorings will all be answered by this report. The Council also recognises the need to work with The Cork Harbour Forum and The Coastal & Marine Resources Centre.
